ABOUT ME

Dr. Dylan Sorensen (Osteopath)

I started Osteopathy with one goal in mind: to help people find LifeLong health.

I am passionate about exploring everyone’s health history, exploring injuries, bodily functions and lifestyle factors. Taking note of how they relate and how these can be modified to give a lifelong solution to problems.

I understand that everyone is an individual. This means that everyone receives a unique experience, tailored to exactly their needs. This helps to build trust between patient and practitioner and creates a foundation for open and honest communication.

While everyone may have a different goal, together we will help you understand where you are currently, highlight the goal and then create a process to bridge the two together.

What to expect

We are conveniently located Osteopaths in Coburg, at 52 Gaffney St. From the street, you will see that this is a gym, Apex Strength! We are upstairs and will collect you at your allocated booking time.

If we are already with a client, please take a seat somewhere - or have a look around the gym.

Once we've met and are in the treatment room your osteopath will ask questions about your problem and symptoms. They may also ask about your health history, any medications you are taking, as well as factors that may not appear to be directly related to your problem. If your health condition changes between osteopathic consultations, you should tell your osteopath at your next consultation.

Your osteopath will conduct a full osteopathic assessment involving clinical tests. This may involve diagnostic, orthopaedic or neurological tests, postural assessments, movement and functional assessments.

Some assessments involve the osteopath observing you while you undertake an activity or perform a sequence of movements. Assessments may also include passive and active movements - where the osteopath manually lifts your arms or legs or applies resistance while you perform a stretch or movement.

Osteopathy takes a holistic approach to treatment, so your practitioner may look at other parts of your body, as well as the area that is troubling you. For example, if you have a sore knee, your osteopath may also look at your ankle, pelvis and back.

Your osteopath will also provide education and advice to help you manage your condition between appointments. This may include giving you exercises to do at home or at work.

FAQs

  • Wear something comfortable!
Generally we say to wear whatever you would to the gym. Provided this gives adequate access to the area in question. In some cases, the osteopath may ask if you are comfortable undressing down into your underwear, so please keep this in mind.
Bring along any X-rays, scans or test results that you may have. If you have been referred by another medical professional, please bring the relevant paperwork.

  • There is usually space on Gaffney Street right out of the gym, however if there is nothing here, try one of the side streets.
Williams road also usually has lots of space.

  • You're in charge, so we certainly hope not!

Osteopathy combines hands on manual therapy with exercise programming, dry needling, other interventions like exercise prescription and movement advice when clinically indicated. Hands-on treatment may include massage, stretching, repetitive movements, mobilisation and/or manipulation.

If your injuries require hands-on treatment of painful and tender areas, we will exercise care to make you are as comfortable as possible.

Some people experience mild soreness for a day or two after treatment, similar to that felt after mild exercise. If this soreness persists or increases, call us to discuss your concerns.
