Why I chose to be an osteo in coburg
Why would I open a small, one Osteopath clinic in Coburg?
1 reason - community.
The community at Apex Strength has been a genuine lifeline through a period of time that was… well let’s call it unpredictable.
Story time
The year was 2022, a burnt out and 111kg Coach Dyl had just come back from a stint in COVID related isolation in Frankfurt, while learning that I had in fact not qualified for the 2022 Winter Olympics (yes, bobsledding. YES, really. YES, like the movie).
I needed something after seeming losing everything. I wasn’t going to the gym, I didn’t have a place to stay, I didn’t have a job - I was totally lost.
Out of the blue, the woman that helped rehab a sticky Achilles injury the previous year messaged me (Kelly Mann) “Hey mate, how you going?”. Which to be honest almost brought me to tears. I wasn’t going. I just wasn’t. The phrase that will stick with me for many years was when she said “how about you start lifting again? Pull you out of the darkness?”.
So we did. Kelly started coaching me. I ran my last maxed out credit card through the gym to get a membership.
That lead me to meet a PT that worked at another gym and I tagged along for a session there. It was ok, but not my vibe. But while I was there, someone mentioned ANOTHER gym - Apex, in Coburg. So I tried that too.
And it was welcoming with open arms. Since then, I started working at other Osteopathy clinics in Melbourne, and have been at Apex 4-5 times a week, for the last two years. Making friends, lifting, learning and now in my own weird way teaching others to escape their darkness.
So when the opportunity came to open be an osteo in Coburg, it wasn't even a choice. It just felt natural.
Since then, I’ve never felt more in the right place.
I’m looking forward to helping the Coburg Community, the powerlifting community and everyone in between. As an Osteo in Coburg, that is driven by purpose and passion for movement, that was rediscovered in this small by mighty powerlifting gym.
LifeLong,
Coach Dyl.
